MAITE LARBURU

VOICE, VIOLIN & GUITAR

Maite is a versatile musician.

After studying violin in the classical music field, she specialized in Early Music Performance at the Amsterdam Conservatory with the help of "Nicanor Zabaleta" award. As a result, she has worked with some of the most significant Early Music groups in Central Europe over the last 15 years. These include: Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, B'rock, Anima Eterna Brugge, Holland Baroque, Ricercar Consort, Les Timbres, Capriccio Stravagante, Solamente Naturali, Vox Luminis etc.

However, the violin is not Maite’s only creative weapon: as she loves to explore words, musical instruments, sounds and harmonies, she has released four albums as a singer-song writer: two of them under the name of neighbor (with Josh Cheatham) and her first solo album (Hezurren Azpian). This work received the 2020 Musika Bulegoa Award for Best Album and was a finalist for the 2020 MIN Independent Music Awards for Best Album in basque language. Her fourth solo album (KRAK) was released in the fall of 2021. It was awarded with Musika Bulegoa award in 2022.

She has collaborated with the basque radio and with Berria newspaper.

Maite's latest projects include theater. In 2021-22 she premiered as an actress in AMUA and recently she is touring with HONDAMENDIA (2022-23), alongside Axut! and Artedrama theater companies. In this last theater production, Maite combines acting with live music making.

She lived in Amsterdam between 2002-2018. Since then, she lives in Hernani.
