Carlos’s interest in the bass clarinet began to be influenced by his brother Miguel, composer. After studying clarinet in Madrid he moved to Amsterdam to specialize in bass clarinet with Professor Harry Sparnaay. There he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in bass clarinet and contemporary music.
For the past 25 years, Carlos has worked with many significant European ensembles, chamber groups and orchestras. He has also released numerous pieces as a soloist; among them and after working closely with the maestro Pierre Boulez, the piece Dialogue de l'ombre double, in the bass clarinet version. He also participated in one of the last recordings supervised by the Györgi League, for Teldec and with the ASKO / Schoenberg Ensemble in Amsterdam. In 2004, and at the invitation of the Nieuwe Ensemble, he premiered Brian Ferneyhough’s controversial opera Shadowtime in Munich, Paris, Bochum, New York, London… and so on.
He lived in Amsterdam from 1995-2018. He has lived in Hernani ever since.
